Darina Joy is a Bulgarian-born filmmaker, writer and founder of Surprise Futures & Network, based in the Ecuadorian Andes. Her work brings together poetic storytelling, emotional truth, visionary futurism and emerging technology. She explores human–AI co-creation, consciousness, digital trust and the relationships connecting people, animals and the living world.
The Ultimate Surprise marks her filmmaking debut, following an earlier Canva-based creative experiment, Love Is the Interface. In this hopeful science-fiction short, she asks how trust might survive a world of fabricated faces, voices and memories—and whether technology can protect dignity without demanding surveillance or sameness. Darina led the film’s concept, writing, creative direction and selection of generated material, contributed her own voice, and retained final editorial and authorial responsibility throughout its human–AI production.
Her creative voice is guided by a desire to transform pain into beauty, remembrance into healing, and imagination into possibilities for a more humane future. Tenderness, humor, jewel-like luminosity and wonder shape her cinematic language, giving intimate human experiences room within expansive visions of tomorrow.
Through Surprise Futures & Network, Darina connects storytelling with practical experiments in human agency and collaborative future-building. She creates to awaken joy, deepen connection and imagine technologies that help living beings meet freely while preserving their differences. Her guiding belief is simple: “Love is the answer, Wisdom is the way, and Joy is the how.”
